The Platinum Preppy is Platinum's most successful line: the Preppy fountain pens are available in beautiful colors, are refillable and are attractively priced. The pen consists of at least 40% recycled material.

The Maki-e version of the Platinum Preppy was released in a limited edition of 6 unique designs and has a unique maki-e appearance. Maki-e is a combination of the Japanese words 'sprinkle' and 'paint'. A base coat is first applied to the pen, after which the design of the pen is carefully applied to the pen with a metallic powder.

The design of this pen represents the Japanese word Nasu, which means "things will go well" and "success". It is depicted in the shape of an eggplant. The pen comes in a special limited edition packaging.
